Living with Parkinson's disease can present its challenges, both physically and emotionally. However, one essential aspect of managing the condition is the support and camaraderie found in a robust community. Support groups play a vital role in empowering Parkinson's patients to navigate through their journey with more strength and resilience.

At Shine for Parkinson's, support groups are at the heart of their mission. These groups offer a safe space for patients to share their experiences, feelings, and insights with others who can truly understand their daily struggles. Being part of a support group can combat the feelings of isolation often associated with chronic illnesses like Parkinson's and provide a sense of belonging and understanding. In support groups, individuals can exchange valuable resources, coping strategies, and tips for managing symptoms. Sharing personal victories and challenges can inspire hope and motivation for others in the group. Moreover, the emotional support received from peers going through similar experiences can be incredibly comforting and uplifting, providing a sense of reassurance and upliftment.
We provide volunteer opportunities on the weekends at senior centers and hospitals. Help us with support groups including with engagement in the following:
Walking Groups: Help us organize walking sessions with PD patients to promote cardiovascular health and social interaction.
Arts and Crafts: Engage in creative activities like painting, pottery, and knitting, which can help maintain fine motor skills and provide a therapeutic outlet.
Community Meals: Join group meals to enjoy nutritious food and socialize with peers. Help us create meals for the elderly and distribute them!
Annual Celebrations and Parties: Since April is primarily for PD, help us create a memorable experience for our patients! RSVP forms will be linked once everything is finalized. Look out for our newsletter to stay in touch!
